karim sahraoui has been producing gems for many years under various names such as djinxx, soul monkey and electronique resistance. after a break 2014 saw his return to the business under his real name and producing music that is closer to him than ever. releases included the future classic eternal life ep pt 1 on derrick mays transmat and appearances on labels such as cocoon. the a-side features the epic 10-minute original version of horns of glory on which karim takes his time to unfold the story of the track: a journey filled with beautiful melodies and rhythms that paint a lush landscape of sound. side b features the earth from above which again has a fairy-tale feeling to it. the b2 is vince watsons pumping and powerful remix of horns of glory which gives the track an energetic hypnotic quality and rounds off the package well.

ever find yourself on a long escalator in a train station? an undistinguishable robot voice is coming from the intercom. you move effortlessly on this machine, yet you do not understand the sounds coming towards you. this is the essence of vestibule. followed by the ecstatic rhythms on rising, these two make a colorful a side in contrast to the black and grey of solpara’s previous releases. the b side features two remixes, one by the prolific lestasi delloro and the other by the newest member of the booma roster: belgium lights. lestasi delloro questions the four to the floor pattern of the original track and pops it upside down, like the negative of a photograph, giving it an unexptected bounce with marvelously swung hi hats. belgium lights takes a deeper approach to the remix and stretches it out to almost 9 minutes, pulling us down the escalator, at a faster pace and through a darker tunnel.

unequal is a label founded by anselm from frankfurt am main in 2015. ranging from deep, spaced out analog techno to more droning, industrial rough sounds, the aim is to give an impression of whats going on in the ffm underground these days. sophisticated broken beats and modular synths are essential for this project. unequal means not to be just one specified style but an open-minded platform to express a diverse view of music within the techno genre. with his first ep called -gral-, anselm delivers some cold, moody techno tracks with spherical soundscapes as an connecting element. the title track on the a side is a journey through wide open extramundane synth layers and bubbling acid drops covered by a voluminous bass. b1 is a bit more conventional one with driving hi-hats and slightly jacking beat whereas b2 is four-to-the-floor trippy stripped-down minimalism for the heads.

2016 repress.. these reworks by the revenge (soul heaven, jisco music) & greymatter (mr bongo, unique uncut) present two unique interpretations of the original, the revenge strips the track down into one of his trademark slamming mid tempo grooves, whilst greymatter keeps it closer to the original but adds a new level of drama for the dance floor. side b introduces a new talent to the scene – krl. playing on samples and influences from the soul scene and restructuring and resurrecting them as modern dance floor bangers, krls tracks are already creating a big buzz. the massive recession beat has been in constant demand since its first initial promo airings and the storming remember (greymatter rework) is also set to do big things.

every song done by keith & tex had absolutely trusted in those qualities, and these laid back and relaxing tunes are no exception. on a-side features a mid-tempo rocksteady and the flip side is their cover version of temptations’ 1968 hit.

the last couple of years have been huge for pomo, going from a relatively obscure canadian producer to releasing his debut ep on hw&w, remixing for the likes of janet jackson and mark ronson, and touring the globe with disclosure as their hand-picked opening act.

lady blacktronika shows two totally different sides to her character with her return to bass culture via a potent ep full of deliciously dark, bass-heavy productions placed side by side with more soulful explorations of the house sound. following the ‘all in vain’ ep, which landed earlier this year, lady blacktronika comes correct once again with a collection of four of the finest quality cuts. our introduction to the ep is a thorough dip in the deep end of tech house, with the marauding ‘it rains’. full of darkness, the venomous track stomps along with a powerful, darkside bassline and razor-sharp percussion. high-pitched keys add to the malevolent flavour of this raw cut. after that, we get a more measured, yet mysterious and unsettling slice of minimal funk. ‘no good’ is a hypnotic trip inside lady blacktronika’s murky world with snarling synth lines, clever percussion, eerie fx and a naughty little b-line. on the flip we have retro-inspired ‘call my name’, with a very old school feel as the 808 gets a proper workout in tandem with a familiar female spoken-word vocal layered over the top. this is bound to send the dance floor into uproar with its killer vocal sample. finally ‘set out your luv’ gives the ep a heady ending, light airy pads are placed alongside a grooving bassline, soulful vocals, diamond-cut beats and squelchy effects to create a lush, dreamy soundscape which will get those hips moving….

ian blevins is the keeper of the jewel in the crown. this is his second offering for the esp institute. picking up right where we left off, side a unleashes another explosive big room belter with resume a driving rhythmic monster that takes advantage of the whips and cracks in ian’s drum machine arsenal, while warm chords lay a foundation for a quirky lead melody and rubbery pulse to dance upon. akin to hannibal, blevins esp institute debut in 2015, the arrangement here toys with us before revealing the true guts of the track—this time characterized halfway through by a punctuating gangster piano hook. on side b, poor old head utilizes ian’s signature drum styling we’ve come to adore, but here he establishes swells of melancholy via bending notes that meow and purr, beautifully ebbing and flowing though an array of incongruous dial tones and bells—shakey and barely out of sync, yet cradling a loosely drawn chord progression. these two songs will smack you up before they rub you down.

“ultra thin” is a sure hit dance floor filler manufactured with super catchy funky bites wrapped on heavy rhythms and crunchy 8bit percussion. on the same side, “way out” is a premium hi-energy filtered house anthem.

parallax 03 - this upcoming release on parallax features two fresh cuts by yogg on the b-side, and the first taste from his new collaboration with another tel-aviv based producer -pharaoh. 460 is a 10 minute run of subtle deep atmospheres and flucuating dub sequences. for now shows yoggs more violent techno style with its accentuated offbeats & industrial leaning patterns. oo-oo brings this one to closure on a quite but powerful note, with a more lush texture and subtle serial sequencing.

re-issue of a ltd aussie techno/house 12- from 1997. in 1997 tim jackiw emerged on the scene with his very first release on the short-lived aussie imprint, offworld records. the release was limited to 500 copies and went virtually unnoticed. a few music journalists at the time of the release dubbed it as one of the greatest electronic records to come out of australia. the a-side begins with a long deep technosoul journey. the b-side continues with more recombinant classic detroit and chicago sounds of the golden era. recondite is proud to re-issue this long lost introduction to tims music with new sounds to come in the near future!

willie burns (the trilogy tapes/wt records/ l.i.e.s. records) complements this unusual walk in the woods by absorbing it into his warehouse banger signature. burns rework focuses on micro events of the original to create a sort of granular house version out of them. the adventure continues on a somewhat melancholic turn with we have been here before and sometimes as the b side. while we have been before is a more dancefloor-oriented take to krautrocks signature synthline layering, sometimes is norwells venture into a more techno universe than he’s mostly associated with to come out with a soothing, yet banging work. as digital bonuses, norwell offers glimpse a short but catchy synth jam riddled with different layers of complexity. this piece is then taken into obscurity by farbwechsel records boss s olbricht for a ride into a 80s-cyberpunk club where people are trying to dance their problems away in a dystopian world.

‘escape from reality’ as first track, goes down as a bleeping submarine, deep diving into underwater caves where a slow and hypnotic rhythm reverberates through ears and mind. second cut ‘alchemy’ continues the interdimensional explorations, and after long intro, it gradually detaches from the surface reaching a leaden sky. drums and claps alternates on a soundscape of constant roars, holding the track in a steady mesmerizing jingle. the b-side opens with ‘found myself’, edgy broken beat with a stronger and more club-oriented dynamism which finds its best shot in the last cut ‘chain reaction’. a ravishing synthline drives through tribalesque drums, snares and thunderclaps to close the record with a mystic vibe....

a year after his last outing on the label, gunnar haslam is back on delsin with four more tracks of idiosyncratic techno. opening up this ep with the title track, haslam cooks up a spangled brew of erratic synths and spinning hi hats and ties them together with a heavy rubber kick drum. followed by sarsi which is then completely different, its a beatless and emotionally forlorn cut that still manages to take you somewhere special. deep dancefloor business taking over on the b-side. scurrying alien sounds closed by a frenzied techno trip. each track here is different from the last, and each track here is a refreshing proposition from one of the most interesting guys around.

the shag edits return on roots for bloom with volume 5. label boss jamie trench starts things off with where the party at which reaches in to a hip hop flavour with that 90s sample feel. reece johnson rounds off the a side with a disco style cut that will bring the boogie to any floor. the b side sees the label welcome more newcomers in bristols j.morrison and the mysterious g.markus. brown eyes sees that 70s style funk brought to the table and bing! is a more house affair with a rolling feel to it.

with the release of this set of remixes figure head len faki reveals previously unseen shades of both the source material and his own musical identity. produced over the course of last year and originally never intended to come out, the hidden objects were to remain just that – hidden from anyone but faki himself who was privately developing a different side of his in the studio.
